Why do we wear clothes?

Maslow’s hierarchy of needs describe the need for clothing just a physiological needs. By the way clothing has evolved over the centuries from a basic need to a #fashion item. Wearing #clothes satisfy three basic human needs: 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹, 𝗽𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹, 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹.

We can find four main ways in which clothes satisfy these needs:

  1. PROTECTION: hats, scarves, coats are a way of protecting you from the cold weather, but also something you can put on to look stylish and trendy. Clothes that are designed to protect are used as protection from the weather, environmental dangers, occupational hazards.

  2. ADORNMENT: adornment is expressed differently in each culture and changes over time. Adornment satisfies the human psychological need because clothing can affect the morale/mental attitude of anyone in a good way.

  3. IDENTIFICATION: Based on what you are wearing, some outfits can easily describe or establish who or what a person is. Examples of identification are dress code and uniforms.

  4. STATUS: People buy high-end branding for acceptance from their society. By wearing high-end brands, you want people to think highly of you and show that you have the money to purchase the brand.
